Take Your Kid to Work Day:
A Capstone Truck Show

National Take Your Kid to Work Day 2020 fell right on the heels of the initial COVID-19 lockdown. While traditionally a day for kids to visit the office, working from home meant a new approach was needed. But hey, limitations breed creativity! To keep team spirits during challenging times, I conceived and coordinated the “Capstone Truck Show,” a virtual event designed to connect our team (and their families). The idea was simple: Kids were invited to showcase their love for all things truck-related. Whether it was a coloring page masterpiece, an interpretive marker creation, or a prized toy truck – anything on wheels went!

Keeping it easy

Knowing parents were managing the ever-present juggle of work and kids, the goal was to create a fun event requiring minimal effort. I created and sent out printable coloring pages as an option, but also left the door open for kids to use the medium of their choice, or even display a toy truck.

Sharing the smiles

Throughout the day, parents sent photos of their kids and their trucks. I then compiled and shared these photos company-wide via email, along with funny captions I wrote in the style of the popular Instagram account, “WeRateDogs.” Needless to say, the day was filled with smiles and offered a much-needed boost during a challenging time.
